Brotime Improv originally started with Sam Thrun and Frank Ierna, who met performing long-form improv with a Saint Petersburg based improv group "Special Guests." After coming to a mutual agreement that they both click on stage together, Thrun decided to start a two man group with Ierna that focuses on short form improv. Most of the games that are being performed were taught to Thrun through his classes at Comedy Sportz Milwaukee. Today Brotime Improv has both Bros and Brahs, with the number of performers in the group at eight.

Brotime Improv is based out of Saint Petersburg Florida, and many of the performers have been selected to perform in New York City at Amy Pohler's Theater, "The Upright Citizen's Brigade Theater," for the Del Close Marathon.
